THE IDEA
Our Yarra is an app concept I developed to endorsed the Yarra Strategic Plan (Wilip-gin Birrarung murron) Act 2017. The Act will strengthen the protection and management of the Yarra River and help coordinate the responsible public entities that operate along the Yarra River.
The vision will articulate a community story that understands and celebrates the past, values people’s experiences now and imagines a healthy and iconic river for all Victorians in the future.

Welcome To Country
As the app launches, Welcome to Country is shown. The area now known as the City of Yarra stands on the traditional lands of the Wurundjeri people. Their connection to the land and its waterways extends back tens of thousands of years to the beginning of time when their creator spirit Bunjil formed the land and all living things.

You can customise your home screen by adding the areas categories about the Yarra that interest you.
CHOOSE communitIES BASED oN YOUR INTERESTS.
Each community has a scroll bar at the top with popular subcategories, the first space is always reserved for Yarra for when there are updates in the Yarra Strategic Plan that directly affect a community or whenever people use the hashtag #YARRA.
For example, the rowing community would receive updates about changes in YSP about access in certain spots along the Yarra that clubs use. By subscribing to things that interest individuals and their lives, it’s a much easier and more strategic way to gain supporters who each have their own causes to fight for instead of trying to please everyone at the same time.
BUSINESS INTEGRATION
The Business aspect of Our Yarra is intended to gain the interest of local Melbourne companies to become part of the app and embrace the Yarra. The steps towards getting verified on the app are related to overall sustainable and eco-friendly business practices that Our Yarra supports. For example, composting coffee grounds doesn’t directly affect the Yarra itself however it does reduce waste and achieve a small victory within Melbourne business.
PROMOTING CHANGE
The hope behind getting businesses to integrate into the Our Yarra app is that they can be role-models and promote change in other Melbourne businesses. It only takes a few companies to get the wheel moving in following better policies that will improve the quality of everyone’s experience with the Yarra river.
SUSTAINABLITY AUDIT
The online verification will allows businesses prime ad positioning, the higher their rating is. The overall goal is that these companies will want to become involved for the good publicity whilst also becoming important supporters and stakeholders of the YSP.
